Our world faces many challenges.
Conflicts and inequalities are intensifying... Extreme climatic phenomena are multiplying and murderous intolerance is gaining ground... Our security is threatened, notably by nuclear weapons... We have the tools and resources to meet these challenges. All we need is the will to do so. The world's problems know no borders. We must overcome our differences if we are to transform our future.
When we have given all peoples the opportunity to enjoy their fundamental human rights and to live in dignity, these same peoples will be the architects of a peaceful, sustainable and just world.
On this United Nations Day, let us strive, "We the peoples of the United Nations", to make this aspiration a reality.
